DMMC II – Dib’s Wagon of Doom

Our recent foray into the world of Fantasy Grounds took a decidedly chaotic turn with an adventure titled “Dibs Wagon of Doom.” What began as a seemingly normal day quickly devolved into a desperate struggle against a bizarre and dangerous contraption threatening a peaceful town.

We soon learned that the source of the trouble was a ramshackle war wagon, a crude and dangerous vehicle bristling with makeshift weaponry like short swords attached to long poles. This “Dibs Wagon,” as it was ominously named, was the brainchild of a disgruntled individual known as Dibs, a goblin who apparently held a grudge against the town after suffering a humiliating defeat in their local goblin wrestling matches. Seeking revenge, Dibs had gathered some less-than-competent goblin allies and transformed a stolen merchant wagon into a mobile engine of destruction.

The arrival of the wagon was met with immediate alarm. It lurched erratically through the streets, sometimes gaining surprising speed before sputtering to a near halt, all while its goblin crew attempted to stab and slice at bystanders with their jury-rigged weapons. Our party sprang into action, with one of our members bravely attempting to obstruct the wagon's path by shoving a regular wagon into its way. This act of quick thinking proved somewhat effective, momentarily hindering the war machine's progress.

However, the Dibs Wagon was not easily stopped. It seemed to possess a strange resilience, even appearing to catch fire at one point, much to the dismay of its goblin occupants. A chaotic battle erupted as the goblins dismounted to engage us directly. Spells flew, blades clashed, and the air filled with the sounds of combat. We utilized our various skills and abilities, including attempts to strategically position ourselves for flanking maneuvers and unleashing magical attacks.

The fight was a desperate affair. Characters fell unconscious, relying on their allies to stabilize them and clinging to life with crucial death saving throws. One brave soul even made a heroic sacrifice, their actions contributing significantly to taking down multiple goblin threats. The flaming war wagon remained a dangerous element on the battlefield, threatening to engulf everything in its path.

Despite the odds and the near brush with total defeat, our party persevered. We managed to overcome the goblin attackers and ultimately defeat Dibs, putting an end to his vengeful rampage. With the threat neutralized, the townsfolk emerged, expressing their heartfelt gratitude. They showered us with offers of free food, drink, and lodging as a reward for our bravery in saving their town from the bizarre menace of the Dibs Wagon.

Beyond the immediate action, the session also served as a valuable introduction to the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop environment. We learned about using the combat tracker, managing our character sheets, and even the importance of safe gaming tools. The resources available through the Fantasy Grounds Academy and community were highlighted as avenues for further learning.

In the end, “Dibs Wagon of Doom” proved to be a memorable and action-packed encounter, showcasing both the potential for emergent chaos in tabletop roleplaying and the collaborative spirit of a party working together to overcome a truly unique threat. It was a fitting tribute to the spirit of helpfulness and community that the David Middleton Memorial Con sought to celebrate.
